The children are encouraged to spend some time at home each week on the Lexia computer reading program. If you have questions about logging in at home, contact Mrs. Granger at

Each night, your child is required to read independently for 20 minutes. He/she should read a selection of books from his/her reading bag, making sure that the new book is practiced. A portion of that 20 minute time block should also include some reading from the word book for reinforcement and practice of skills we are currently working on in our PAF skills block. Five to ten minutes of sight word practice should be included, in addition, each evening.

A math packet will be sent home every other Thursday beginning on Sept 18.  Each packet will be for a duration of two weeks due on a Thursday as well.

Daily spelling assessments occur with the word wall work and skills dictation. Your child will come home daily with a long, skinny piece of paper with five word wall words on it. He should read that list of words to someone each night. Spelling is also supported daily in our reading block with our literacy centers of "working with words" and "looking for chunks".

Spelling lists are glued into your child's Homework Notebook on Monday. Practice spelling each of the sight words and words from the word family words for a test each Friday. If the spelling test is canceled for that week, a notice will be glued in your child's Homework Notebook.

Note: The children will be responsible for research reports and book studies. These assignments will include such projects as: creating a poster board display, writing a book report, writing a research paper, etc.  All projects will include explicit instructions with information on materials to be used and how the research is to be conducted. A grading rubric will also be included. Such projects will address the curriculum areas of science and social studies.
