Standard 1:  Career Development

Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes and ability to future career decisions.

    I. Accounting #562

II. Course Description

 

Accounting helps students develop the specific skills required to solve a wide variety of business problems commonly found in everyday business situations and in their personal business situations. Topics covered include Accounting principles and terminology, GAAP, the 9-part Accounting Cycle, etc. This course material will work towards preparing students to handle the computational skills of an entry-level bookkeeping/accounting position, to move on to further college study of accounting as well as his/her own personal financial management requirements for running a small business of their own in the future. Students will work on a daily basis in the computer lab using accounting software to enter transactions, prepare trial balances and create financial statements.

 I. Business Mathematics #563

II. Course Description

 

Business Mathematics will help students develop the specific skills required to solve a wide variety of mathematical problems commonly found in everday business situations and in their personal business situations. Topics covered include personal financial management: business operations, office applications, and banking and finance for personal and business use. A student completing the course in business mathematics will be better prepared to handle the computational skills of an entry-level business position as well as his/her own personal financial management requirements.

II.      Course Description

 

This course provides high school students with an introduction to the complex practice of creating and maintaining websites.  Students will learn to create websites, hyperlink web pages together and insert multimedia elements into their websites.  Through a combination of web authoring, Internet research and other hands-on activities students experience what a webmaster is responsible for in the world today.

Grades 11-12, preference will be given to upperclassman.

This is an advanced course that uses advanced software.  Students selecting to take this class should have a solid foundation of basic computer skills.  It is highly recommended students take Computer Technology prior to this class.

 

 

 

 I.      Media Studies (#565)

II.      Course Description

 

The field of sports and entertainment management is rapidly growing. This course is for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry including managing sports programs at all levels, event planning, sports marketing, and public relations. It allows students to work in a cooperative environment and show leadership skills in managing personalities and talent, while working on both group and individual projects. Skills to be taught in this class included: pre-production skills, video production, camera operation and recording, studio preparation, fundamental video-editing techniques, styles and multimedia.

Grades 11-12, preference will be given to upperclassman.
