Dear Parent or Guardian:

Last school year I went into every classroom to talk to every student in the High School about myspace.com and facebook.com.  These websites have both positive and negative attributes and uses.  Fifty million people use these websites regularly.  What I spoke to your children about is a different concern.  New companies have been cropping up that download, file, and warehouse much of the information that is put on myspace.com -- myheadhunter.com is one of these companies.  These companies are developing what is called a "shadow resume" that can be and will be used in the future.  This is basically a history of conversations, pictures, opinions, and other information that has been on your child's site if they have one.  This can be used and is currently being used to determine admission into college, internships, and initial job employment.  These shadow resources could have a big impact on their futures.  For more information, please see our website for various articles.  I really think you need to speak to your children about the seriousness of posting information on myspace.com.  It is public knowledge once it is posted on the internet.
