General Music Classes

The bulk of the homework for music class is assigned to 3rd grade students.  During the recorder unit, students are expected to spend some time playing the recorder and practicing reading music outside of class.  4th and 5th graders are encouraged to continuously be listening critically and thinking about the music they experience in their daily lives.

Chorus

One of the most difficult challenges in preparing for a concert is memorizing the words.  Students are encouraged to practice recalling and singing the lyrics of their chorus songs, alone or with parents or friends, outside of rehearsal time.

Band

Practice Minutes

Band members are expected to practice for 20 minutes on at least 5 different days during the week (not counting their lesson time).  They are then encouraged to record the number of minutes they spent practicing on their lesson schedule, obtain parent or guardian initials, and then bring the lesson schedule back to their weekly lesson to be checked by the teacher.  Students will receive 1 point (out of the 4 possible described under “Expectations”) for each lesson they remember to do this.
