Community Service Ideas

The following ideas are approved activities for Community Service.  You do not need prior approval in order to complete these activities. 

  • Volunteer at Hospitals
  • Volunteer at Local Thrift Shops - (i.e.- The Hope Chest in Dover)
  • Help at Camps
  • Help at Nursing Homes
  • Help at a Library
  • Cook for Community Kitchens
  • Volunteer at Firehouse
  • Collect Food for Food Pantries
  • Volunteer at Animal Shelters
  • Dover Recreation (Terry Ptasnik)
  • Help at Elementary Schools
  • Town Cleanup (parks, roads, cemeteries, etc.)
  • Help with Brownies//Cubscouts
  • Clothing Drives
  • Benefit Walks
  • Sports Scorekeeper
  • Spirit Club
  • Leo Club Activities
  • Volunteer at Blood Drives
  • Non-Profit Organization Service
  • Become a Big Brother or a Big Sister
  • Working for a handicapped or elderly neighbor is allowed but must be pre-approved by one of the CS Coordinators.   A telephone verification will be made to recepient of services and an hourly cap may be applied.  A contact telephone number must be provided.

    Activities not included on this list must have prior approval or they may be denied.  Tutoring must get pre-approval.  Ideas for CS are always welcome.  Please contact one of  the Community Service Coordinators, Mrs. Robin Conklin (High School), 877-5700 via e-mail,,  or Ms. Loos (Middle School),, 877-5740.

The following activities are NOT allowable as Community Service:

  • Working in an office or for a business such as a doctor, lawyer, daycare, nursery school, or any other business which makes a profit.
  • Babysitting
  • Yard work/ housekeeping for neighbors

Rule of Thumb - If someone would normally be paid for the service which you are considering or if the business you are considering helping is in business to make a profit, then chances is NOT community service!!!
