NOTICE OF ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BUDGET, ANNUAL MEETING, SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTION AND VOTE 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE DOVER UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, AS FOLLOWS:

1.    That a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for School District purposes during the ensuing year (the Budget), as prepared by the Board of Education, may be obtained by any resident of the District at each of the school buildings in the District, and at the District Office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., commencing April 25, 2017, except Saturday, Sunday or holidays.

2.  That the Annual School District Election and Vote on the Budget will be held at the Dover Middle/High School, Dover Plains, New York, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, when the polls will be open for the purpose of voting by voting machine:

A.      To vote on the following proposition:

Shall the Board of Education of the Dover Union Free School District, Towns of Dover, Amenia, Washington and Union Vale, Dutchess County, New York, be authorized to expend the amount set forth in the budget for the 2017/2018 school year in the total amount of $31,517,438.00 and to levy the necessary sum against the taxable real property in the district. 

B.      To elect three (3) members to the Board of Education.  Two seats are for five-year terms, expiring June 30, 2022.  One seat is to fill a vacated, unexpired seat, and will expire June 30, 2019.  There are three (3) candidates:  Craig Tamboia, Walter Cropley, and Patricia Hammond.

3.    That applications for absentee ballots for the Annual School District Election and Vote may be applied for at the Office of the District Clerk during regular business hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on days when school is in session.  Written requests for applications must be made at least seven (7) days and no more than thirty (30) days prior to the Election and Vote. The completed application must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days prior to the election if the ballot is to be mailed, and no later than the day before the election if the ballot will be personally picked up by the voter.  Absentee ballots must be received in the Office of the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the Election and Vote, May 16, 2017.  A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued shall be available for public inspection in the District Clerk’s office during regular business hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., up to the date of the Election and Vote.  Any qualified voter may file a written challenge of the qualifications of a voter, whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for the challenge.
