In all Chorus classes at Dover Middle School and High School, the nine National Standards for Music Education are followed and incorporated into the curriculum.  They are:

1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture. 
 

6th Grade Chorus

Students in 6th Grade Chorus will have the opportunity to sing a variety of two-part songs, including classic works by such composers as Mozart, Beethoven and others, along with more contemporary songs, including some Broadway show tunes or songs from movies.  The vocal focus in 6th Grade Chorus is on learning to utilize proper breathing techniques, vocal tone, pitch matching, ear training, singing as an ensemble, two-part, unison singing, and rounds, and rhythmic exercises.

 

 7th/8th Grade Chorus

Students in 7th/8th Grade Chorus will have the opportunity to sing a variety of two-part and three-part songs, including classical works, Broadway and other show tunes, contemporary songs, and songs in foreign languages.  The vocal focus in 7th/8th Grade Chorus is on continuing to sing with proper breathing and posture, vocal tone, ear training, singing as an ensemble, two-part singing, three-part singing, rounds, and rhythmic exercises.

 

 High School Chorus

Students in High School Chorus will have the opportunity to sing a variety of three and four-part songs, including classic works from a variety of musical eras, contemporary works, spirituals, Broadway songs.  Students will also have the opportunity to sing songs in foreign languages.  The vocal focus in High School Chorus is on proper breathing, posture, vocal tone, ear training, singing as an ensemble, three and four-part singing, rounds, and rhythmic exercises.
