Applied Chemistry

 

Course Description: Chemistry is the study of matter, all of the elements that compose it, and all of the reactions it can undergo. To gain a complete understanding of chemistry, a number of different learning strategies will be employed. These various strategies will allow students to learn by becoming actively involved in the material. Laboratory work is an integral part of this experience.

Classroom Guidelines:

  • Be on time – we will follow the DUFSD late policy
  • Bring required materials (see below)
  • Take care of bathroom needs before class when possible
  • Do not ask to leave for anything other than bathroom emergencies (drinks, snacks, etc …)
  • Be respectful of classmates and myself
  • Be attentive and do not distract others
  • Make up missed work promptly
  • Do not use phones, iPods, etc in class – we will follow the DUFSD cell phone policy

Materials and Supplies:

  • Large 3-ring binder
  • Pen or pencil
  • Calculator
  • Reference tables

Grading:

  • Tests – 40 %
  • Quizzes – 20 %
  • Labs – 20 %
  • HW – 20 %

Keys to Success:

  • Participate!
  • Complete all assignments
  • Seek extra help when needed
