 Class Specials

 

Day 1: Gym (1:30-2:05)

Day 2:  Art (10:05-10:40)

Day 3: Library (10:05-10:40)

Day 4:  Music (10:05-10:40)

Day 5:  Gym (10:05-10:40)

Day 6: Computers (10:05-10:40)

 

*We will be going to lunch at 10:50 daily.

 

*Your child will need to provide his/her own snack each day. We will eat snack each afternoon in class. Please send in a nutritious snack. Your child may also bring in a juice box or water bottle.  Please send in one food item for snack because we will only have approximately 5-10 minutes for snack.  If you would like to send in extra snacks for our snack cabinet it would be greatly appreciated. I use these extra snacks in the event a child does not have one of his/her own.

 

 

Reading:       Please read with your child every night for at least 15 minutes.  Your child will also be bringing home a bag with "little" books during the year. You will begin seein these in a few weeks.  Please practice these books with your child each night.

 

 

Spelling:

*We will take a spelling test every Friday.  In the event that there is no school on Friday, the test will be the following Monday.

*Your child will bring home a  spelling notebook for homework. Please complete all of the assignments in this book and return it to school every day!

 

Math:

Here are the expectations for the first 3 chapters of our new math program: 

Chapter 1

  • I can use pictures to “add to” and find sums. (1.1)
  • I can use concrete objects to solve “adding to” addition problems. (1.2)
  • I can use concrete objects to solve “putting together” addition problems. (1.3)
  • I can use solving adding to and putting together situations using the strategy make a model. (1.4)
  • I can understand and apply the Additive Identity Property for Addition. (1.5)
  • I can explore the Commutative Property of Addition. (1.6)
  • I can model and record all the ways to put together numbers within 10. (1.7)
  • I can build fluency for addition within 10. (1.8)

 

Essential Vocabulary: addition sentence, is equal to =, plus +, sum, add, zero, addends, order 

Chapter 2

 I can use pictures to show “taking from” and find differences. (2.1)

  • I can use concrete objects to solve “taking from” subtraction problems. (2.2)
  • I can use concrete objects to solve “taking apart” subtraction problems. (2.3)
  • I can solve taking from and taking apart subtraction problems using the strategy make a model. (2.4)
  • I can compare pictorial groups to understand subtraction. (2.5)
  • I can model and compare groups to show the meaning of subtraction. (2.6)
  • I can identify how many are left when subtracting all or 0. (2.7)
  • I can model and record all of the ways to take apart numbers within 10. (2.8)
  • I can build fluency for subtraction within 10. (2.9)

Chapter 3

  • I can use the strategies count on, doubles, doubles plus 1, and doubles minus 1 to practice addition facts within 20. (3.6)
