2018-2019 School Year
Hello from the School Counseling Department! I hope everyone had a great start to the school year. Listed below are a couple of reminders for students and parents. I have also listed some important dates to remember.
- 1st Marking Period five week progress report date is Wedensday October 3rd, 2018. Please go over the progress report with your child in order to keep them on task. If you have any concerns, you can contact the counseling department.
- 1st Marking Period ends Friday, November 2nd, 2018. Please make sure students have all of their homework and assignments handed in. Those grades can make a huge difference on their report card.
A couple of other reminders to help all students stay on task in school.
BE ORGANIZED: Make sure that you come to school prepared. Find out what supplies will be required for your classes and any other items you may need to get you through the school day.
BE ON TIME: Memorize your schedule to make it easier to navigate around the school. Get to class as early as possible so that when the bell rings you are ready to learn. If you have questions about your schedule or how to find the way to your class you can always ask a teacher. Make sure that you set your alarm for the morning and if you have trouble getting up, set a second alarm.
GET INVOLVED: The best way to meet new people and make new friends is to get involved. There are many clubs, activities, sports and intramurals that you can join here at DMS. If you're interested listen up for announcements and follow the DMS webpage for updates. You may even see me at some of the after school activities!
ONE MORE THING:
Mr. Mercurio's Bio
This is my sixth year at Dover Middle School and I could not be more excited to be here! Prior to working here at DMS, I worked for Arlington Central School District for 3 years and coached baseball there as well. I live in the Town of Poughkeepsie with my wife and two sons. We love to ski, hike and travel. I have always had a passion for playing and watching sports, especially baseball. I also love listening to all kinds of music and attempting to cook as much as possible.
My Role at DMS and Contact Info
I am here to serve as an advocate for the 7th and 8th grade students that attend school here at Dover. I will be working with the students in my office as well as in the classroom throughout the day. I am very active and I like to spend time in the cafeteria and gymnasium when I am not in my office. In addition to serving as an advocate, I am also available to help with any social, emotional and academic issues that may arise throughout the school year. The Counseling Department is here to assist students with transitioning into middle and high school, career exploration, and many other developmental activities designed to prepare them for the future. If you have any questions or concerns as the school year progresses, please feel free to contact me by email or phone. I am available from 7:15 AM until 2:15 PM Monday through Friday. My contact information is listed below.
