Good afternoon, Parents and Guardians. This is Mike Tierney, the Superintendent of Dover Schools.
I’m pleased to report that the investigations by the New York State Police and the Dutchess County Sheriffs’ Office have COMPLETELY cleared up the two events that caused havoc over the last two days.
A person was charged and arrested for making yesterday’s bomb threats to the school.
Also, as many people know, I received multiple calls last night about a Snap Chat post that stated – I quote – “I heard they are supposed to shoot up Dover and New Milford High Schools tomorrow at 12.” – End Quote. Once again, we reached out to the police departments who investigated the post, and we also communicated the information to the New Milford Police Department.
After the investigation, police determined that there is NO CREDIBLE THREAT concerning any of the Dover Schools.
We’ll open on a normal schedule tomorrow morning, and we hope that these senseless acts are over.
In the meantime, please talk with your child about using social media correctly, and the ongoing importance of telling an adult if something doesn’t seem right or normal. If your child is fearful or anxious and wants to talk with someone, we’ll have counselors available at all schools. You can call the Main Office or your child can tell their homeroom teacher and we’ll arrange counselling.
I’ll be communicating more information with you as our Safety Committee makes revisions for improvement on our current safety plan.
Once again, I am proud and appreciative of the Dover students, staff and community for the way they acted during these recent events.
