The state of New York Education Department now requires each child receiving a physical for school have the BMI measurement included.
The BMI or Body Mass Index is a calculation derived from the child's height and weight measurements to give an indication as to the child's body fatness and how it may affect their health. The higher the child's body fat the greater chance of that child having various health problems.
If you would like more information about BMI and the school's role please contact me at 845-877-5731. You can learn much more about the role the BMI indicator means to your child's health as well as your own just by googling BMI or go to the Center For Disease Control's web site.
