The Visual Arts program at Wingdale

Elementary School incorporates the four New

York State Standards for the Arts and the six

National Standards in Visual Arts. By the

conclusion of second grade, students will

have had a variety of artistic experiences in

the following areas:

• Drawing

• Painting

• Sculpture

• Clay

• Basic color theory

• Basic principals of design

• Use and care of Art materials

• Famous artists and their work

• Cultural Art forms from around the world.

• Art in popular culture/everyday life

• Art in America

  Art tools tecniques and processes

3 Art

The learner will learn about and work with…

·         Art and cultures from around the world including:  Africa, South, Central, and North   America, Asia, Australia and Europe

·         Drawing detail

·         The human figure

·         Color theory

·         Basic elements of design

·         Famous and unknown artists and artwork

·         Care and use of art materials and tools

4 Art

The learner will learn about and work with…

·         Cultures and traditions of art in America including :  Weaving, metal work, botanical    paintings and portraitures

·         Applied color theory

·         Elements of design

·         Proportional relationships in design

·         Famous and unknown art and artists

         care and use of art materials and tools          

5 Art

The learner will have the opportunity to learn about or work with…

·         Ancient to contemporary art forms, artworks and artists.

·         Careers in Art

·         Advanced color theory

·         Perspective

·         Elements of design

·         Contour drawing

·         Sculpture

·         Continuous line drawing

·         Care and use of art materials and tools

·         Art work presentation
