The Dover Union Free School District is a united community committed to enriching the lives of students through education.

Welcome, to the Dover Union Free School District.  As you drive up the driveway to the High School/Middle School, you will see our seniors have painted pictures, murals, and symbols that represent their experience at Dover.  As you walk through our schools, you will see beautiful student-painted murals and doors in the Middle/High School, and in all of our schools there are numerous displays of student writing, art, and projects.  If you heard the speeches of our students at the 8th grade moving-up ceremony and graduation, there was a common theme - sense of community.  We take great pride and go to great lengths to embrace this strong sense of community and connectedness to Dover.

It is this theme that holds us together to provide the best possible education for the students of Dover.  Our commitment to work together for the benefit of everyone is woven into the rigorous curriculum, professional development, professional learning communities, developing a fully inclusive school, our character education programs, scheduling practices, and our extra-curricular activities.

We want everyone to be connected to our great school, receive the benefits of it, and contribute to make it better.  I will work hard to continue with the great traditions of this community and give our stakeholders the opportunity to live to their calling.

Respectfully,

Michael Tierney
Superintendent of Schools

The elementary school students, including incoming kindergarteners, will be receiving five new books to take home for the summer. It is our hope that these self-selected books will be read and shared with parents and family. The idea came from a number of research articles that identify "the summer slide" - where students experience a decline in their reading skills if they do not have consistent reading experience over the summer. Having a routine that includes time for reading will benefit all children.
The Dutchess County Department of Mental Hygiene has expanded its 24 hour HELPLINE service to include texting. Dutchess TEXTS is designed as an alternate way to access mental health assistance since many people, particularly young adults and teenagers, often prefer to text rather than talk on the phone. Young people can access support services by texting "DMH" to 741 741. Experienced, trained mental health professionals are available 24/7 to help young people stay safe and healthy with effective, secure counseling and referrals.
See the Dover High School Jazz and Concert Bands' performances in Virginia Beach at the 'Fiestival' where the Dover Jazz Ensemble received 1st place in the jazz division and the Concert Band received 2nd place in the concert bands division. Congratulations!!!!
