Letter to the Community

Good Afternoon Dover School Community,

As you may be aware, there have been recent legal proceedings regarding a ruling by a Nassau Supreme court and mask mandates, which was announced Monday evening.  There has been a political back and forth that schools, respective legal counsel, boards, families, and communities have been placed in the middle of regardless of personal stance.

On Tuesday, the Appellate courts granted the application by the Department of Health and the Governor’s office, confirming the lower court’s decision is stayed pending further proceedings. This means, the mask mandate remains in effect for schools across the state until the court proceedings conclude.

I’m taking this opportunity to once again thank our dedicated and caring staff and faculty, supportive Board of Education, and wonderful students, community, and families. I am sorry we are once again in the middle of these frustrating and challenging times. Your patience and kindness under pressure do not go unnoticed. I will continue to update you as the situation unfolds.

With appreciation and deepest respect,

Dr. David Fine, Your Superintendent
